Serving our Country… National Guard Style

My second cousin Maria joined the National Guard. For those of you that dont know the National Guard actually serves our state and federal governments. For several months, Maria left mom to train in combat for her future service. Her Mom, my first cousin Tati , asked if I could craft a little cake for her return home.  To honor her role in the Guard I decided to go for a patriotic theme. I incorporated into the fondant our nation’s colors of red, white and blue.  The top tier features a deep flag blue with stars with the base of the cake featuring red and white stripes. Think our Nation’s Flag….

The National Guard logo is displayed prominently on the side printed on an edible sugar sheet made out of edible ink. The dog tags are crafted out of fondant and then air-brushed with an edible silver food color. The little camo bag was crafted combining various earthy tones of dyed fondant. The cake is a simple two tier of chocolate and vanilla with buttercream.  To Maria and the countless others that serve our country this cake created with  sugar, water, flour and a little magic says “Welcome Home” in more ways than one…
